9 Ways to Save Fuel in Long Car Trips

1. First rule - don't drive too fast. You need to keep speed at about 50 miles/hour. If speed will be 10% faster than consumption of fuel will be 10-20% more because of bigger air resistance. Just ask yourself if saved time worth of additional money, which are not excess.

2. Close car windows, hatch and put away any unnecessary installations off your car's roof - all of these will lessen air resistance.

3. Keep your car conditioner off, if there is no critical necessity in it. But do not forget about it completely (turn it on at least one time in a month even in winter, in other case compressor will get out of order). In other case saved money on fuel you will happen to spend on repair.

4. Be more restrained - you should not fasten your speed like a daredevil from one stop at traffic lights to the other (in such conditions remember also about your brakes - they also cost money, if we speak about saving some for you anyway). Instead just switch on some classic music, relax and proceed in calm speed, if there is any traffic jam ahead you will get in there any way.

5. Save recommended air pressure in tire casings - it will save fuel and good traction with road. Because of overinflate or lesser inflate tire casing losses of fuel may be over 10%. Do not forget to do wheel camber in time, it would prolong life of your tire casings and also save some additional fuel.

6. Clean up and put everything in order in your luggage rack - additional weight will cause bigger usage of fuel. So, any trash should be thrown away immediately from your luggage rack. Together with that you can clean up all inside of your car. For example you won't need a car tent unless you plan to leave your car under the sky, or you plan to go camping somewhere off the bitten track.

7. Use higher transmission - engines are more effective on low transmissions than on higher ones, because a lot of powers waste with no usage, only moving parts of mechanism in motion. When engine rpm decelerate to 1500 you should lower transmission.

8. Look after you car regularly - not only because something will broke in the same time, but also because keeping your car in best condition will save additional fuel. Car is very difficult system of mechanical and electrical mechanisms, and when something works the way it shouldn't work whole system will be corrupted. It can result in more fuel consumption.

9. Use best car oil that will fit to your car, do not try to save your money on oil. Also do not believe every commercial about car oil you see, not every of that "super-duper" oils are fit for engine of your car, or just good any way. Firstly ask specialist about oil for your car engine, in any car service point specialist can advise you what oil with what coefficient of viscosity you need. Oil with coefficient 0W30 is better than 10W40, which better than 20W50. But if you will use oil with too little coefficient of viscosity for your engine - it will cause deadly problems with it!
