2010's all new Grand Marquis has continued in the same body style as the rest of its fourth generation Marquis brethren. The familiar 4.6 Liter "class-exclusive" single overhead camshaft engine shows that the Grand Marquis seems to be sticking with recent tradition. There are no engine changes between the 2009 and 2010 models, but that may just be due to the fact that they didn't think they needed to make any. Even though there's nothing majorly new about this powerful 90-degree V8 engine, it has a few rather nice features. It can run off of gas or the 85% ethanol/gas composite E85, with the computer unit adjusting for either. 16 charging alloy cylinders deliver 224 horsepower and an accompanying 275 lb.-ft. of torque at 4000 RPM, all in a neat little cast iron block. With an engine like this, this Grand Marquis was clearly intended to be a traffic worthy vehicle, and not a stain on the environment like so many others. It is a faithful standby workhorse of an engine designed with a stable front/longitudinal mount to make the Grand Marquis a smooth ride. The sequential electronic fuel injection engine has a fuel economy of 16 mpg in cities and 24 mpg on highways, dropping down to 12 mpg and 17 mpg respectively when using E85, as it seems the vehicle is less efficient using ethanol. The towing capacity is normal for a large car at 1500 lbs, so don't expect to pull all your possessions cross-country, but realize that you could certainly get a few things moved around town. |
